Jens Klimek was born on
April 19, 1984 in Magdeburg (Germany).
He got his basic musical
education at the Landesgymnasium für Musik including music history, music theory, auditive
training and choral direction.
At the Landesgymnasium für
Musik Jens Klimek also worked as the youth chamber orchestra’s conductor
(1999-2003) and sang in the Rundfunk-Jugendchor (2000-2003).
He began his first attempts
in composing at the age of 11. Aged 13 he wrote his first sketches for operas
and orchestral pieces which have been performed at the Halberstadt
local theatre at several composition workshops.
Numerous premieres and
prices in composition contests prove his continous compositional work. In 2006
Jens Klimek won the 2nd price at the composition contest of the
Deutscher Musikrat for “The Garden of love” (for mixed choir a cappella). In
June 2008 he won the 1st first price in the International compostion
contest “Lipanski zvuci” for his work “Three Madrigals” (for male chamber
choir, based on texts by Dante, E. A. Poe and W. Blake).

From 2004 to 2010 Jens
Klimek studied music and anglistics at the Otto-von-Guericke University in
Magdeburg. Furthermore he has been educated in composition by Bernhard Schneyer
and Prof. Thomas Buchholz (Halle/Saale). Since 2005 he has conducted the Cantamus Choir in
Magdeburg and has worked with prisoners on a choral project. He also sings in
the Wernigerode chamber choir and participates in various compositional workshops by Annette Schlünz and Helmut Lachenmann.
Klimek's choral music has been published at Hayo music publishing and Edition Ferrimontana. Since August 2010 he has been teaching Music and English at Hegelgymnasium/ Magdeburg.
